Good Question!
Modesty tends to get a bad rap in our modern, main stream, self-centered culture. In most dictionaries it is described as being meek and shy. Both qualities sound so unappealing and weak, no?
However, in Jewish culture we recognize modesty as being one of a person's best attributes.
This quality represents true strength. Especially valuable when looking at those particular qualities it takes to sustain a successful marriage.
I heard a young lady ask a rabbi one day, "How will I know when I am ready to get married?" And the rabbi said, "You will know you are ready, when you are over yourself."
There is so much truth in what he said.
When it's all about you, there is no space for anyone else.
Let's learn to humble ourselves and make some space for another!
